Fables

I got this from our trainor... and I give credit to whoever is the writer...

The Buzzard, Bat, Bumblebee, and Thee

Buzzard

If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without a space to run, as is its habit, it will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.

Bat

The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkably nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.

Bumblebee

A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.

People

In many ways, there are lots of people like the buzzard, and the bat, and the bumblebee. They are struggling about with all their problems and frustrations, not ever realizing that all they have to do is look up.

Blooper

About two or three Saturdays ago, I attempted to take a picture of myself. I've been wanting to have a picture to send to my family and friends, but not having the time and company for this, I opted to try doing it myself like I've always done since I got here. And since I was in the mood that day, I was pissed that I didn't have my camera along, but was thankful that I have my mobile phone.

Burjuman

My officemate Ara asked me to go with her to the nearest shopping mall from our office. This is Burjuman. It's also one of the best shopping malls here in Dubai. Thinking that it has been two months and I haven't really gone anywhere else, I thought this would be a cool thing to do.
And it was. The funny thing is it was the last day of the Dubai Shopping Festival. It also means the last day of sale on most of the stores anywhere in the city. There were performances, little as they are. We have come across one, and it was nice to see them.
Again, this was taken with my mobile phone. I hate it that I don't bring my camera often these days. Maybe I should because there are a lot of unexpected things that is worth to be captured.
These people are walking on those sticks like they were using their own feet. I know this is trivial, but I still find it fantastic seeing them not so often.
This next picture is rather funny. I am amused by the way I have taken it, but blurred as it seems, I have the effect that I am looking for. There are a lot of good lighting effects (such as this) that you can see in this mall.
Then, we happened upon this painting. I immediately had this idea of taking this picture. It's good that Ara is very cooperative and never hesitated to cooperate with my weird thoughts...

It was fun...

Embedded and Drifting

13 December 2007

23:46

I had dinner at Kuya Isma's place. It's on the 7th floor of their accommodation called The Oman House. I was looking through the window while washing my hands and I couldn't help but notice the view. This was around 9.00p.m. and traffic is usually still this heavy here in Dubai.

Embedded and drifting, I feel good. I am now training for my work and by next week, when the Filipina I will be relieving goes home to the Philippines, I will be alone and doing her job. She wouldn't be back until first week of February, and until then, I will be doing telemarketing alone. I hope at this time, I will be all set and ready to do the job. This would be the first time that the company would do telemarketing and this is an experimental thing for the company. I feel drifting at this point as to how it will all come out.

Back

Well, I don't really know what happened but for the past week or so, this page has been blocked by our provider for cultural reasons. But now, it's back... hopefully for good. There were a lot of entries that I made that I wasn't able to post. I guess it's still worth posting it for a reason or two.
